Amethyst is a violet variety of quartz. The name comes from the Koine Greek ἀμέθυστος amethystos from ἀ- a-, "not" and μεθύσκω methysko / μεθύω methyo, "intoxicate", a reference to the belief that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness. The ancient Greeks wore amethyst and carved drinking vessels from it in the belief that it would prevent intoxication. Amethyst is a semiprecious stone often used in jewelry and is the traditional birthstone for February.

the india international gem and jewellery fair has ended.
The markets for high end jewlery, diamonds and stones was low.
Most of the people were visiting on the stall of inexpensive gemstones of mostly blue and red colors.

Gemstoe shortage
due to The floods in Bangkok the production of gemstones has been stopped.
there is a heavy shortage of blue topaz. We advise our customer to stock the blue topaz if they nedd them in future as the prices are going to rise.
In india the govermet is giving so many incentives to the poor people that no labour wants to work in the gemstone cutting centers
